Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are interested in the world around them. They are city kids with a keen interest in learning new things. They love to explore, to write, to build and to read. They come into my class with little to no socialization, so we spend the beginning of our year learning procedures and how to be good students.
My students come from an impoverished background, but they also have strong family ties and parents who want the best for them.
Our school is very large and with the latest state budget cuts, our class will be much larger than normal. This won't stop us from becoming a school family looking out for each other and learning everything we can in this first pivotal year of school.
My Project
My students don't have a lot of access to the opportunities these centers provide. They have great imaginations, but supplies like these make ideas concrete! They love to imagine themselves as doctors or police officers or astronauts. These costumes allow their imaginations and their dreams to come to life! Being able to play while learning will enrich their hand strength, their fine motor skills, their gross motor skills, their vocabulary and communication skills and even their numeracy. Students who can't wait to try out a new center in kindergarten are the ones who persevere and make it to graduation. These exciting math centers will add a layer of enticement to our rigorous kindergarten curriculum. Play doh mats are always a hit and the math game teaches fluency with addition facts! The number puzzles will help with our goal of counting to 100!
