My students need 2 color printers, flash drives, blank cds, copy paper, markers, crayons, pencils, rulers, erasers and glue.

This project is fully funded

The purpose of my course is to instruct the students to be able to navigate a computer as well as use design sense to create attractive presentations. My students are taught file management, Microsoft Office, iMovie, Garageband, Macromedia Dreamweaver and Fireworks. I teach in a neighborhood that could be considered high need.

Our resources are limited. We have 12 laptops that students share. We have one black and white printer which is ok, but their digitally produced drawings lose so much power when printed in black and white. I introduce a topic in which the students then write and draw about the topic by answering questions. These drawings, writings, film clips and digital photos are transferred into iMovies which are then saved to a Quicktime and then plugged in to a html page. Our focus is to have the students consider the question regarding who is responsible for a life? Is it the government or themselves.

As much as I would like to support a paperless technology classroom, we need to print out their work to exhibit 24/7 in the hallways for parents, visitors, and also the students. We have film festivals and presentations to show their iMovies and Power Points.

Without a color printer I am not able to exhibit their digitally created drawings true to form. A black and white printer does not do justice to color drawings. With the copy paper we create books of their writings, ideas and freehand drawings regarding our topic. The cds are used to save their work for their portfolios(2 cds per student, per year.)
