Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach in a Title 1 school in North Carolina where all of the students receive free breakfast and lunch.
The students in my classroom are students with learning and emotional disabilities.
My students walk into class every day eager and excited to learn. Despite all of their hardships, my students come into school and try their very best.
It is a privilege to teach such a resilient group of students, and they deserve the very best to support their unique learning.
My Project
Having individual copies of Erika Sanchez's I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter will bring my students learning to the next level. My students struggle to relate to characters in the traditional class sets that our school has to offer.
Being able to read a story and relate to a character, is what allows a child to fall in love with reading as a whole.
My students are very interested in learning about current events through accessible texts. Erika Sanchez's I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter is exactly that.
Having personal copies of I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter will give my students the opportunity to make annotations and thoroughly dive into the text.
