My Students
My students are learning Korean as their second language. Most of my students are not Korean. They are learning Korean to fulfill their foreign language credits in order to receive high school diploma. I also teach second and third generation of Korean Americans.
My students come from all parts of Queens with various economic, education, cultural and language backgrounds.
They learn Korean language, culture and heritage in my class and we need a lot of resources since city budget is very tight on education.
My Project
My Korean language students have to write a book in Korean by the end of this school year. Most of my students are non-native speakers of Korean and I am trying to motivate them to learn Korean through art, music, and literature. However, many students struggle with Korean language. Learning a new language is really challenging.
If this project gets funded, they will be creating their own book in Korean.
I want them to have the hardcover book because I want them to cherish the book for years. This is the only place whrere they can write a book in Korean with teacher's support and all the resources. Through this project, they will learn a lot of vocabulary words, many types of drawing and genre. Each student will be an author and an illustrator of their own book. They will illustrate and choose specific genre and write in Korean.
