I am a scientist and so are you! We conduct science experiments all the time in our daily lives. My students will gain that understanding this year and learn to question the world. They will plan investigations and have the ability to explain what they want to know and what they've learned.
My students live in poor neighborhood.
They have limited access to museums, arts and literature. Still, they are like any other group of young people: curious about how the world works. My job as their teacher is to expose them to a larger world than their immediate surroundings and give the the tools they need to continue their pursuit of knowledge and understanding in an ever evolving world.
My Project
I am requesting items to help them with science and literacy. The plants, 3D ear, and Scholastic Newsmagazines are linked to science standards for 3rd grade. They grow plants and witness plant life cycles. They study sound and the ear allows them to see inside! Scholastic News and Science links literacy and science. The paper, book bins, whiteboards and word magnets are for literacy centers. (I also use the paper to teach them to write in cursive.) The junction box is for centers as well- yet can be used for any subject.
The materials I am asking for will help enhance and increase classroom activities.
Students will have access to materials and resources that will give them a front seat to learning. Instead of me standing in front like an actor on stage, I want them to participate in centers where they can learn from each other and first hand materials.
