My Students
Our school is in the inner city of beautiful Miami. I teach the exceptional intellectual students in a self-contained classroom. Our students receive instruction in Math, Science, Reading, Social Studies, Social Skill and Physical Education.
My students are all students with special needs, all of them presenting with significant delays in cognitive, communicative, social emotional, and behavioral skills.
More than half of the student population that I work with require speech services. My student face many difficulties that are just beyond comprehension to most.
Every child has capabilities, talents, and strengths; sometimes all it takes is exposure or motivation. Our class consists of a group 10 down syndrome and IND (Intellectual students), most of them receiving resource services, and speech therapy along with occupational therapy. Some of my students are learning to read, write, and count while some of their classmates are learning to imitate sounds or hold a pencil. A few of my students are in Pampers. Our group loves to play outside, learn new games and participate in Special Olympics (bowling, soccer, basketball, etc.
As my students make gains in my classroom, they begin to try small chunks of the day with their typically developing peers.
My Project
My main focus for the use of the electronic tablets will to teach the children how to use technology, applications, and the internet to further their understanding about different educational websites. Although they deal with such difficulties, my students are always bright and excited to learn each day.
The tablets will also allow the teacher to teach the students on how to use the mouse, with hand over hand, or just simple touch instructions.
Accessing several different education sites will allow each child to increase their educational abilities.
Ninety-Five percent of my students doesn't assess any technology devices at home. Picturing the students smiles on their face with just using the limited devices, with taking turns makes teaching a success.
More than half of students from low‑income households
