My Students

Our students come to school each day ready to learn both academically and socially.

Our school day not only addresses academic needs but also the social and emotional needs of our students. Many of these students are struggling to form healthy relationships because they are self conscious of the physical changes they are undergoing. Personal hygiene challenges are something that many of these students have begun to experience that definitely influences their success here at school. I am asking for basic hygiene products to provide our 4th and 5th grade students so that they can come to school every day and confidently focus on their academics and relationships.

Our school community works hard every day to teach and support our students in all aspects of their lives.

We are a small K-5 elementary school with 190 students. Approximately 40% of children attending our school qualify for free or reduced rate lunch. Because this number is below 60% our school no longer receives Title I funding, though there is still great need for support around equity and enrichment for our at-risk and high needs students, as well as the student body as a whole. While many of our students have significant areas of need, I would like to at least work towards giving them the opportunity to come to school without hygiene worries.

My Project

Our school has numerous students that do not have access to some basic essentials for healthy lives like soap, shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste and toothbrushes. Without access to such essentials some students' health and confidence have suffered. In turn their behavior and academics are also affected.

By providing them with some of these essentials, students will be able to focus on their social and academic development. No child should have to worry about basic essentials.
