Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are a public school located at the border of the vibrant Castro and Mission districts in the heart of San Francisco. Students are diverse including thriving newcomers and a special day student community. Sixty percent of students identify as Hispanic. We offer Spanish Immersion instruction and unique enrichment in arts, leadership and civic activism.
My Project
These hydroponic gardens will give my students the opportunity to learn about plant biology and cultivation through tangible, hands on experiences. They will learn about the science of hydroponics, and the effectiveness of systems in growing our world's food supplies.
Students will gain confidence and pride in taking care of the hydroponic garden system.
They will even be able to harvest vegetables and herbs to take to their families when the time comes. Having living things in a room has been shown to improve student's socio-emotional well being and learning as well.
