Huskies Creative Coping: Building Tools Together

Help me give my students hands-on calming tools and creative projects from worry stones to affirmation bracelets, that build confidence, resilience, and emotional well-being.

My Project

What I love most about my students is their creativity, resilience, and heart. Our K–8 learners are eager to grow and they shine when given opportunities to express themselves and build tools for success.

My goal for this project is to give students the chance to not just talk about coping strategies, but to actually make and practice using them regularly.

By creating, wearing, and sharing these tools, students will feel ownership of their growth and will be better prepared to manage stress, connect with others, and celebrate their accomplishments.

Air-dry clay will let our youngest students (K–2) create their own worry stones, giving them a tangible tool to calm their minds when they feel anxious. Beads and string will allow students in grades three through eight to design affirmation bracelets, a daily reminder of their strengths and positive self-talk. The button maker will help us recognize Student of the Month, lunch bunch members, and student leaders, boosting confidence and celebrating positive contributions to our school community. Noise-cancelling headphones will provide older students with sensory needs, focus and the quiet they need to be successful in class. Calming activities like paint-by-sticker books will support students who visit the counseling office for a reset. Sand art kits will help our student leadership group build teamwork, creativity, and community.

A binding machine, covers, and combs will allow me and my coworkers to create social stories and calming strategy books for every classroom, giving all students accessible tools to regulate their emotions.

With your help, we can equip them with SEL strategies that will benefit them far beyond the classroom walls.
