My Students

My students need help learning literacy skills in Science. The problem is that we do not have money to print copies of instructional materials. Also, we have limited space in our classroom. It is so important for our centers to be organized, so we don't lose valuable instruction.

I work with students with autism, who need to learn science as part of their STEM curriculum.

We want our students to eventually go to college, or join the our local workforce. The size of our classroom and limited storage space make it necessary for our center activities to be portable. Reading and understanding is key. To read and understand is something many people without disabilities take for granted. I have over eighty students in my class. All of my students are diagnosed with autism and are at all levels of the spectrum. I have a few students who are low functioning, a few who fall in the middle and one very high functioning. My students work extra hard every day in my classroom to meet our expectations. It is a constant uphill battle to reinforce, and provide academic challenges for my students each day. Having a child with autism can be very difficult. Sometimes a child cannot concentrate, sometimes they don't understand the instructions we are giving them.

My Project

I am asking for Science Hot Dot cards for my classroom. Hot Dots are flash cards that have special pens that talk to you. With these flash cards, I can set my students up in group or individual learning centers to support what I am teaching. This can also be used to help students who are struggling with their science concepts because these concepts can be difficult to learn for students with Autism and multiple disabilities. These resources will help me reach more students every day and enrich learning STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) so that my students may succeed further in life. I know how hard it can be for my students to learn skills in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) so I would like to give them every chance possible to learn and have fun doing it. Using work that gives you praise and rewards while your working is extremely valuable to my students. I hope that we can get the chance to support their learning with this project.

My students with autism put forth a constant effort daily, and the day is packed with academics.

Now, they must meet all the Common Core Learning Standards. They need help, and building literacy skills for science is one of the most essential parts of learning we can have and plays out through out our entire lives. Your help will ensure that my students will have the chances they need to succeed. We need your help because we rely on donors with a kind heart like yourself.
