This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Many students in our school have been the victims of bullying and we believe it is time to stop!

My students are among some of the most fascinating I have ever worked with.

They are 100% ESL (they comprise 65% of the school population) and have a huge range of personalities, from fun to serious and everything in between. They have voracious appetites for learning and always want to learn something new! My students attend a public school in New Jersey. The school is located in a very high poverty and high crime neighborhood. Virtually all of the students I teach were born in another country and have come here with their families for a better life. Financial struggles are common in most of their households and the purchase of books for personal reasons simply does not exist for most of my students. If I can provide for them by building an extensive library of high interest books and learning materials, particularly ones that focus on anti-bullying and conflict resolution, then I believe I can help set them on a path to a bright future.

My Project

My students were out of school for two weeks because of Hurricane Sandy and we are ready to get back into learning! New Jersey and our school has placed a major emphasis on Character Education and helping children learn ways to work with one another and eliminate bullying. The materials I am requesting can go a long way in helping us achieve this goal!

My goal is to create a classroom learning environment in which children have respect for one another and understand the importance of working together peacefully and cooperatively.

Children can learn through the bullying books and materials I have requested. These materials can help us move toward that goal of being kind, caring and respectful students.
