My Students

Hurricane Sandy hit Staten Island, New York and devastated all of us. As many were evacuated, many were not. Staten Island is now an island of devastation. My students with disabilities were forced to abandon their homes, some are now homeless, others replaced and some returned to just rubble left.

I teach students with Autism and Multiple Disabilities from 2nd to 8th grade.

I work with over eighty students on the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) curriculum. They want to understand what happened to them and teaching them about science and nature is key for understanding. They now need our school more than ever to provide a nurturing environment to them. They come to school to feel both safe and wanted. My goal is to inspire a love for science and show them the amazing wonders this world has to offer. All of my students are eager learners who are like little sponges; ready to absorb anything you give them. They love hands on lessons! Whether it is a game, computer game, activity on the smart board, iPad, playing with manipulatives or just sharing a book, they love to learn new things in a variety of different ways. I currently have, in my classroom programs that correlate with reading and math for the students. The children learn best through hands on experiences.

My Project

I want my class excited to learn science. The best way to learn science is to use hands on materials. We would be able to take the concepts and experiments we find online and in books and bring them to life. Understanding the properties of physical science, knowing the various plant life out there and watching it grow. To think that science would now be a time of safety goggles and recording results sounds like a lot of learning to me!! The students work must also be engaging; they must be able to find that special SPARK that makes them interested and want to learn. In the STEM curriculum, I feel they can find something unique to themselves, that they will have ownership over and learn important educational and life lessons in the process. These materials are essential for my students with disabilities to learn STEM like their non-disabled peers. Even more importantly, our students must meet all the Common Core Learning Standards by their grade level and they need our help!

My students need a physical matter properties kits, zoob car designer, I can build it kit, tornado tube kit & think big science game to learn various parts of science.

With your help, I will be able to provide my students with an enjoyable outlet for my student'€™s scientific inquiries. They will have the chance to explore everything science has to offer them. For children, building critical thinking is one of the most essential abilities they learn throughout their entire lives and you can be a part of that learning! Your help will ensure that they succeed. We need your help because we rely on donors with a kind heart such as yourselves. Thank you.
