Hurricane Sandy 1yr Ago: Building Confidence And Perseverance

My students need new sheets for their mats, wordless books, and large letter keyboards.

My Students

Over a year after Sandy struck the little shore town I teach in, houses are still missing and children in my class need materials to replenish and make them comfortable at rest time. We also need wordless books to help us express with our language and comprehend from what we see not what we hear.

My students are the best thing about my job.

They are creative, lively and eager to explore our world. I look forward to seeing each of their bright sunny faces every day. I teach in a low-income school district which means many of my families work very hard to provide for their families with many of them working more than one job. After the hurricane devastated their town last year, many of my students were traumatized. They are still dealing with emotions from loss to anxiety. They need books to help them have fun with language and explore literacy content at their age level.

My Project

My students are in need of new sheets to help them have a healthy and safe rest. They also would benefit from a large selection of wordless books to have fun with language and explore their comprehension of interpreting a story from pictures not just from words. I am also requesting two large keyboards to help them on the computer.

My students need new sheets and I would love for them to explore their imaginations using wordless books and use the computers easier with a large keyboard.

These items would brighten their day. A nice new clean sheet would make a mat on the floor more comfortable to them. Thank you for considering my project. My students are very deserving and very grateful.
