This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My school has been impacted by Hurricane Harvey. It is located in South Houston so both the school and neighborhood suffered water damage. We were one day from starting with all our rooms up and running, supplies already laid out and materials ready to go. Much of that will need to be replaced. The community seems to have met the need for clothing and toiletry, but school supplies and materials have not yet been replaced. Our students are part of the largest city school system so the needs will be great. Please consider us as you consider donations.
My Project
My students need a string program to meet the needs of the younger, smaller child. These 10 ukuleles will allow my students an opportunity to begin at an early age to study a string instrument. These 10 ukuleles will allow for 30 students a day to practice in class with teacher supervision. This will be a start up program for the younger ones, to enhance the guitar program we have for our older students.
Hurricane Harvey inflicted more than damage to the buildings of Houston, it also gave our youth an emotional wound that music will help heal.
