This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are amazing and overcome more obstacles in a day than most of us will in a year! And almost all of them will do it hungry!

My project is to provide Kleenex and snacks to my homeroom, because as a Title I school, we serve children in a very low income community with some of them currently out of a home and 75% of them are food insecure.

If a child is sick or hungry, they cannot learn to the best of their ability. Our district provides free breakfast and lunch but we know a lot of our students don't eat again until they get back to school. My project will provide afternoon snacks to the students before they go home. Since we are scheduled for early lunch this year, that means it's a very long time until breakfast the next morning. Having a microwave to make popcorn for afternoon snack and warm up leftover breakfast items will be a big help!

And having Kleenex on hand for all the runny noses is a necessity.

So I am grateful for the opportunity to share this project with you and have it matched by Kleenex. A hungry body is an unhealthy body and an unhealthy body can not think straight.

We need the basics to help us grow & learn. I sincerely appreciate you helping me provide that to these amazing kiddos!
