My Students

My high school construction students have kept their heads held high throughout a crazy and often disappointing school year. They have met each social and health challenge with hard work, perseverance, and resilience. They have reached goals and taken on the hard projects with a smile. They have completed personal projects, made gifts for their families, successfully fund raised for supplies, and completed several community and school service projects. They also put on a recruiting fair for 108 middle school students and are now getting ready for state testing and student organization competitions.

Construction class creates an avenue for my students to explore careers in STEM, promotes independence, and allows students to earn national credentials in construction.

These 9th through 12th graders look forward to spending two hours in my non-traditional class where they can be out of their seats moving around with hands-on learning. As the first female trades teacher in our district, I'm excited to open this opportunity up to all students and am especially excited to help young women feel comfortable and confident learning construction skills.

My Project

My students have worked so hard this year, meeting every challenge with grit and determination. There are still many academic and material needs to be met this year, but I have noticed one particular issue becoming increasingly more prominent - hungry students! Because of COVID, our high school students are not afforded a regular break time, which is when they would normally have snack time.

When my students come to construction class, which is two hours long, they are hungry!

Because I have small student numbers, I am able to give them a break. I noticed earlier in the year, that many of my students were not able to purchase a snack. Now, many of them are not bringing snacks from home either. Have you ever tried to fill up a teenager? It is impossible! The snacks from this project will provide breakfast and snack foods for hungry students daily until school is out. Help my students be Hungry No More!
