My Students

Welcome to our Fantastic First Grade! I teach 26 amazing 6-7 year old children. They are happy, sweet, and eager to learn. Our room is full of big personalities! My students are hungry for knowledge because they know one day they will change the world.

My students all live in the west side of Chicago and face very real challenges every day, yet come to school full of enthusiasm and pride.

90% of our school population come from poverty, but what we lack in money, we make up for in effort, love, and hope. Living where they do shouldn't mean a lesser education, and I am here to make sure they reach for the stars.

I have a large, happy, inclusive classroom- which means I am lucky enough to teach excited students with a variety of learning styles and backgrounds- special education and general education combined. This is why we constantly move around and incorporate visual and tactile aids into our daily routines. We just need a little help to get the supplies and materials we need most to keep our diverse class running.

I want them to be as happy learning as I am to be teaching.

My Project

My students are hungry! Their tiny bellies are often rumbling and seldom full. Although we provide breakfast and lunch, it is simply not enough to make up for the missed meals in between. I sent them home with snacks for winter break so now it is time to fill the arsenal back up.

My babies do not always know when their next meal is coming, and a hungry body cannot learn.

If basic needs are not met, not much else matters. When your mind can only think about food, learning takes a backseat. I need to get these little ones feeling full, happy, and confident. If we can get a little help with the first part, I promise I will do everything in my power to make the rest happen!

My students are going to change the world one day. They just need a little boost now to get going.
