it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Have you read 1984? Fahrenheit 451? Brave New World? We all remember reading these books about weird societies and different times. The Hunger Games is the modern version that is perfect for middle school students and will open the door to other great novels.
My students all come from the inner city and almost all struggle with reading.
However they love to learn about new things and often enjoy young adult fiction. Classes are fairly large but the school is smaller than average and teachers often work together to keep track of students throughout the year.
My Project
We read lots of short stories in English class, but novels that will hold a thirteen year old students attention are hard to come by. The Hunger Games is a book that can open up the doors to reading while holding a feisty teenager's attention. Even though it takes place in another time, students can relate to characters who also face teenage challenges.
Improving reading skills helps improve every other part of learning.
It only takes one book to open up a students love for reading and books, I think this book will do that for many of my students.
