My Students
At the end of the year, I want my students to meet our Gaudy Goal of growing 3.0 years in reading this year, exceeding our goal of 2.0 years from the 2013-2014 school year. My students deserve to meet that goal, and I want to support them in every way necessary to help them meet that goal.
My students are amazing learners with astronomical potential!
They have a wide range of ability levels. However, my students do not have the resources they need to excel. I need enriching materials that support our Standards and will excite them to read!
My Project
With a classroom set of the Hunger Games, my students will be able to strengthen their inferencing skills, vocabulary, and ability to determine and support the theme of a text.
We will also delve into character relationships. This text will allow my students that are reading above grade level to be challenged with deep, meaningful reading. After reading the first book in the series in a Guided Reading fashion, I am certain that many of the students will elect to read the remaining books in the trilogy independently.
This project will help my students to become more engaged and avid readers.
These books will also help my students to analyze texts and situations with a critical eye.
I intend to use this text at the beginning of the 2014-2015 school year with my enrichment group and hope to use it later in the year as other groups progress to our three year's worth of growth goal!
