My Students

Imagine this: a classroom where students are dying to grab a good book and get lost in it for hours! Welcome to my room. Many times I have "caught" my students with their desks slightly open, discreetly reading from a new book, unable to wait for literacy time to read.

My classroom is a combined second and third grade classroom.

I teach in a diverse room with a wide range of learners, including English Language Learners and students with Autism. I have a large ability range within my classroom, with some students reading at a Kindergarten level and still others at the level of a middle schooler.

My Project

The materials I am requesting include a large number of books to enhance our classroom library. The books on the list are based off of the series and genres my students have expressed interest in including the "Nate the Great" series, the "A-Z Mysteries" series, the "Judy Moody" and "Stink" series, the "Fancy Nancy" series," the "Ramona Quimby" series, the "Lemony Snicket" series, and the "Eyewitness" series. Being a new teacher and having taught younger grades for the past two years, I do not have a large amount of chapter books to appeal to my students who are reading at grade level or above. I spend many a weekend at the half-priced bookstore trying to find a book here or there from the series my students tell me they are dying to read. With these new books, my students won't have to "sneak in" books from home. Instead, I will be able to provide them with literally thousands of pages of new reading material, thereby encouraging and supporting their love for literacy!

In this collection I see something for each of my students.

The "Fancy Nancy" for my most struggling reader, who is dying to read "real" books like the rest of her classmates, the "A to Z Mysteries" for some of my students who loves a good scary mystery, the "Eyewitness" series for my rare student who doesn't really like to read, and is really only motivated by non-fiction books. These books reflect both what my students need right now, and what future students will enjoy in years to come
