My Project

Many of my students experience food insecurity, and hunger is a constant barrier to their success in the classroom. When students are hungry, their ability to focus, retain information, and participate meaningfully in discussions diminishes.

Providing snacks ensures that they have the fuel they need to engage in learning, regulate their emotions, and stay motivated throughout the school day.

A well-fed student is more attentive, more willing to contribute, and better equipped to take on the challenges of high school academics.

The goal of this project is to eliminate hunger as a learning obstacle by providing accessible snacks for students in my classroom. By doing so, I aim to improve students' ability to focus and engage in learning activities, foster a sense of security and stability in the classroom by ensuring they know they have something to eat when needed and reduce stress and anxiety associated with food insecurity, allowing students to concentrate on their education rather than where their next meal is coming from.

We will use these incentives to promote a positive classroom culture where students feel supported, cared for, and valued.

My students are resilient, resourceful, and determined. They attend an alternative school, often facing unique challenges in their personal lives, including food insecurity, unstable home environments, and past academic struggles. Despite these obstacles, they show up and put in the effort to succeed. They thrive when given the right support system, and providing them with basic necessities—like access to food—empowers them to focus on their education and their future. What makes them special is their perseverance, their ability to adapt, and their capacity to grow when given the tools to do so.

These snacks will be shared between my classroom, the office, and the nurse's office.
