My students need storage and organization materials to protect their robotics kits, and art materials to create their amazing robots and animatronic structures.

My Students
Last year, our dream of Hummingbird robotics came true. Students in 5th through 7th grade stayed after school, not wanting to stop creating programming that brought the most imaginative creatures to life. To continue the club and expand the number of members, craft and storage materials are needed.
My kids range in age and come from around the world, but when they work together, they are funny, imaginative problem solvers.
They are helpful to each other and I love working with them. We meet once a week afterschool for two hours. Our school has busy parents, but they spend the extra time to listen to the students as they show their programming and discuss what they plan to do next. Our school is a Title 1 school, but our club brings art, computer science, critical thinking, and the school community together despite the many challenges we face to keep it running.
My Project
At this time, we have access to the computer lab, space for the students to create their creatures or sculptures, and the Hummingbird Kits. The Kits are expensive. To maintain and protect them, we need the stack-able storage containers. The labels will be used for container organization. We have some glue guns and very few cartridges, but since we are expanding the club to high school, recruiting more students from elementary and middle school, and keeping our current members, these supplies and more craft materials are needed. Building robots with a group develops engineering and design skills and practice in accomplishing a goal within a team of peers. Our club also provides students with skills in computer programming with Snap! 4.0. This language has an easy drag-and-drop interface that can be a transition to the college level computer language, Java.
The motto of our school is, STEM Education, College Preparation.
With your donation, our school will be able to continue a powerful, project-based STEM club. More students, from a younger age, will acquire computer based skills needed in universities and later in their career. We are teaching technology, engineering, and how to work with others from diverse backgrounds to prepare the students we love for success after college.
