All juniors are required to write an extensive research paper using primary and secondary sources. This year, the subject of the research is English Romantic Poets and their work. The students need access to reliable resources so that they can be successful in this endeavor.
My students are Honors, Regular and Special Education juniors.
They are diverse when it comes to their experience, background, academic achievement and ability, but they all share a common desire to succeed and to work towards our school's one word mission: College. Our school is a neighborhood, public school in a large, urban city in Illinois.
My Project
The required research paper on the English Romantic Poets is a new topic for writing and research in our school. Because of this, we have very few resources in the classroom or in the library. By donating to this project, you will equip our class library with books that feature the work of the six major English Romantic Era poets; Blake, Byron, Coleridge, Keats, Shelly and Wordsworth. In addition to anthologies of their work, our request includes collections of critical analysis and biographies.
By donating to this project, you will make it possible for the students to do meaningful and relevant research.
You will help teach them the skills of learning about a subject in depth, reading and reviewing a number of sources to determine their significance and organizing the found information into a paper that helps to support their own, original thesis statements. These are skills that they will take with them to senior year and to college.
