This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Have you ever experienced your computer slowly aging on you? And one day, no matter how much you click, it gives you no response? Well … my classroom computer is about ten years old and my students are in desperate need of a new updated computer.
I teach at a wonderful, multi-cultural, public school located in the San Fernando Valley.
We are a Title One school, and many of my students come from economically disadvantaged homes. My class includes students that are both English and non-English speakers, as well as students with disabilities. All of my students enjoy working on the computer, love to create self-portraits on the computer, but the computer lab is only once a week. Lately, our ten year old classroom computer has a mind of it's own. It turns off by itself and we have to hold the power button for about a minute to switch it back on.
It is the only workstation we have for a group of four students to share during center time. The monitor is bulky, small and takes up a huge space.
My Project
One of the project that we love to create using the computer is self-portraits, but the computer lab is only 30 minutes, once a week. If we had a new computer, we have the opportunity to access many software that will enhance our reading and math curriculum. More learning will take place since we don't have to wait forever to download. Programs that are available from the lab can be used in the classroom.
By funding this proposal, you will be giving my students a computer that they can use to learn in so many ways.
