Help me give my students the independence to explore cooking with kitchen items, sending letters using postage stamps, growing plants, and maintaining their classroom with a tool set.

My Project

With the world quickly moving in such a modern, technological direction, it is important to bring kids back to basics as they grow. Skills like sending letters in the mail, cooking, growing plants, and using tools to repair items often feel unexplored for younger students. I plan to dive into cooking through a classroom job called snack chef, allowing students to explore different tastes and cooking methods to prepare a snack for their classmates. We will explore the timeless skill of letter writing, including thank-you notes, to help students feel confident in writing, and find joy in sending and receiving physical mail. With the help of a classroom tool set, I will also encourage students to take a hands-on approach to maintaining their classroom.

What I love about these students is their eagerness to learn lifelong skills, and with your support, we can help them develop these skills even further!

By building on these life skills, I hope students will grow in other meaningful ways - developing curiosity and a willingness to try new things through food exploration, and fostering human connection and kindness through handwritten letters mailed to friends and family. A sense of pride and ownership in maintaining their environment is also an essential goal. These feelings and more are what I hope to nurture in students this year and for the rest of their lives.
