How To... Movies

My students need a DVD burner for Macintosh laptop computers and DVD rewritable discs.

This project is fully funded

Our school, located in a low income neighborhood of a large urban area in Illinois, recently added Technology to our Science and Math Academy name. The students do not have access to computers at home but they enjoy learning with the equipment we have gotten at our school. Last year I worked with 7th grade students to create podcasts with our Macintosh laptops. The students took to this new technology with gusto, and their panel discussions on cyber bullying were a great success. While none of them had iPods to download the broadcasts to, the podcasts were available on the school website and accessible from all classroom computers in the school.

The next technological experience I would like to give the students is to expand the use of the Macintosh laptops to create "How To..." videos. After writing the script, the students will learn how to record, download, and edit the video. Topics will range from how to do a science experiment to how to make a movie, and other more imaginative ideas.

While we have enough Macintosh laptops, we need a DVD burner that works with these Apple products. The students can then take their work home to show off their expertise and understanding of 21st century technology to their parents, relatives and friends. To this end we also need 50 rewritable DVDs.

We have the students excited about learning these new technological skills that will help them as they move on in their education. This DVD burner and the discs will give them the materials they need to think and dream even more creatively.
