Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are juniors and seniors in a urban setting studying Ethics. My students are lively and eager to get into deep ethical discussions on the topics of the day. They are opinionated and looking to further develop as adults. Their experiences in life are varied and present a wide range of view points. They are lacking many resources and supplies necessary in a variety of academic areas to further their success and personal development.
My students are looking forward to developing their own ethical system to lead an ethical life.
My Project
Students will be discovering the world of ethics and values. As part of our Law and Pubic service academy program, we created "Ethics of Non-Violence" as the capstone course. The book "Virtue" is part of a series on philosophy that we hope to use in the student's creation of their own ethical system to live by. The course is open to all students from both the Law Academy and the Health and Environmental Sciences Academy. We have expanded the scope to include topics in ethics that will incorporate the essential questions in both academies.
Our goal is for the students to discover them selves and create an ethical system to live by.
Most of our students come from difficult lives and working through the variety of conditions that affect their thinking is a challenge we are rising to.
