This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach 7th grade math/science in a very low income area. The school has little to no manipulatives, supplies, and materials, so the teachers are to purchase what they need.
We have no supplies for science, a subject taught using supplies. I do not want to teach to the textbook the whole year. I love the topic of anatomy and think that I can turn the kids on to it as well, but would need the help of a model skeleton. That is what got me years ago and I have not forgotten since. Without the model skeleton I would probably not have remembered half of what I know.
We need a lot of supplies, but this skeleton will allow students a hands-on way to understand what they are learning. A lot of these kids have never been exposed to model bones, skulls, skeletons, etc. and this would only enhance their learning and blow their minds.
Your help will ensure that my students enjoy what they are doing as well as understand what they are doing.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
