This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are eager to learn and curious about the world around them. They attend a high poverty school and many of my students are learning English as a second language. Some of them receive a food backpack on Fridays to make sure they have food for the weekend.
I’m requesting red worms and a worm compost so that my students can observe worms in action as they toil in the soil.
My students will contribute their breakfast and snack compostable items to the compost.
My after school bug club members will also study the worms and soil and learn about ways that worms benefit our gardens.
The soil we produce from compostable items will be used in the creation of our butterfly garden that we will plant in the spring!
Thanks for reading about ways to help my students develop a passion for science in a fun, highly engaging activity!
