This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My 8th grade science students are full of questions, and our annual Science Fair gives them an opportunity to design an experiment so they can answer one of their questions. Each student develops a research question, conducts background research on their topic, designs procedures for their experiment, collects data, analyzes their data, and states their conclusions.
Microbiology projects are very popular, but our current incubator is not large enough to hold all of the petri dishes my students need to answer their questions.
As a result, I am forced to stagger data collection and limit the number of petri dishes each student can use. A second incubator will give us enough space for students to develop more complex procedures, collect additional data, and run multiple trials in order to answer their questions.
