My students are creative thinkers, problem-solvers, dreamers, and achievers. They are curious about learning, and they show incredible wonder about everyday experiences that we take for granted. They are eager to learn, and to explore the world around them.
In our classroom, we work to show each child a deep respect for them as an individual.
My students have their own ideas, concerns, questions, thoughts, dreams, beliefs, and more. Children at this age are learning about who they are as people, and how they as people fit into larger systems such as family, school, community, and humanity. Each child comes from an individual family, with individual belief systems, customs, and values. My students come from a variety of diverse backgrounds, bringing their traditions, cultures, and values into our classroom, teaching all of us about themselves.
My students are teachers. I am constantly learning through them. They teach me about the names of a variety of bugs, the height of the tallest building in the world, and how the planets revolve around the sun due to gravity. They will continue to teach me even after they have left my classroom. They amaze me everyday!
My Project
This year, I began my first year of teaching in kindergarten. Throughout my educational journey, I have believed that children deserve beautiful, well-made materials from which to learn. Unfortunately, beautiful materials often come at a higher cost, which has limited our class this year from accessing the beautiful materials that they deserve.
This sand and water table will provide a space in my classroom to not only dive deeply into the natural world while inside of our classroom, but also for them to connect with each other to form meaningful relationships.
My students will have invaluable experiences with investigating how using water to push and pull, why objects might float/sink, how color mixes through water, how different types of soil contribute to successful plant growth, how water helps sand to stick together, and how stories can be expanded through the use of materials.
These types of experiences with sensory materials are also so beneficial for children who have special needs. Children have a right to specific educational experiences to further all areas of their development. This table will allow all of my students to get the educational experiences they need and deserve! Thank you for your support of what students need to succeed!
