This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students loved visiting our local river estuary nature preserve. As part of learning acceleration, student enrichment, and academic renewal, these materials will help them learn about how our Quinnipiac River is a vital resource in our local ecosystems.
Students will use the river kit to research, design, and construct a working model of our local river.
The estuary kits will allow my students to test our local river’s brackish waters throughout the year. The plankton nets and telescoping pond nets will allow my students to collect biotic and abiotic factors of our local waterways and investigate them under our portable field microscopes.
These materials will help inspire curiosity in my students to come up with actionable questions that will lead to actions of positive solutions to some real-world problems through hands-on, place-based, and play-based learning. Outdoor learning helps boost the social, emotional, and mental health of not only my students, but also all collaborating school staff and helps to build strong community bonds.
