How Does Our Health Impact Economics?

My students need hands-on science and discovery kits to understand the human body and how our health affects every part of our life and the economy.

My Students

In our classroom, we work hard to make our learning relevant to our every day life. My students are very hands-on learners. Science labs are important to helping the class relate the learning to real life experiences.

My school is in a progressively growing rural community with total enrollment in pre-K through 5th grade of a little over 550 students.

The town population is approximately 70,000, with 17 elementary schools in the district. The diversity at our school comes from the economic levels with approximately 45% of our students receiving free and reduced price lunches. I teach in a self-contained second grade classroom. I have twenty-five students.

My Project

My students will use these science and discovery kits in our science labs for our Human Body and Health Unit. These kits will help to make our learning more relevant and hands-on. It will also promote collaboration and team work. The kits will help to support the common core standards that is being taught in the classroom by engaging the kids in their learning. It also helps to relate our health with the impacts to the local and global economics.

By helping the students understand their human body and the importance of their health, it also allows us to talk about how the health of themselves, their family, and the community effects the entire local and global economics bot positively and negatively. With all the talk of healthcare in our nation, it is important for me to tie health with economics impacts.
