How Do You Teach Painting To Art Students With Fingerpaints?
My students need 5 Tempera Cakes/Class Pack, 2 Peggy Flores DVD'S (Printmaking and Abroigional Instruction) 1 Art Display Cards (Painting) and 1 Impasto Paint Brush.
How can you paint like Vincent van Gogh using only fingerpaints? Due to limited funding in our public schools, we have not had money to buy tempera paints.
I am a brand new art teacher following the Blueprints for the Arts, in a Title One School.
I teach students from Pre-K through 5th grade, in Special Education, Learning Disabled, CTT, and General Education classes. My students totally love art. We are in the process of learning about Vincent van Gogh and his style of Impasto painting. I've explained how you can see the strokes of his brush and how thick of a coating he applies to his paintings.
My Project
We have started to make sunflowers because we are so inspired of his painting. I only have finger paints so we can't use that to create a thick coating. We are using some old oil pastels that a friend of mine donated to me. If we had tempera paints, we could build up the paint and create wonderful sunflowers. I would like to be able to share with them different techniques of painting by using art display cards on painting. I want to expose them to different ways of painting, and being that my students need visualization, I'm hoping to show them a DVD on printmaking and Aboriginal painting. I feel that having at least one Impasto paint brush could at least let them see what a true impasto painting would look like. i could let all of my students take a turn using it.
If we had the tempera paints, the 2 painting DVDs, a set of art display cards on painting and one paint brush for Impasto painting, my class would be able to really experience the thrill of painting.
We really rely on our generous donors to help out our programs in the schools. It seems like art is the last place where the money goes. Please help us educate our students in the arts. Thank you so much for caring!
