Please help us LEAP through the 4th grade! I teach in a very small Gulf Coast community that was devastated by hurricane Rita a couple of years ago. As of the 2007-2008 school year, we were able to move out of portable buildings and into our newly rebuilt school. Thanks to the generous donations of many businesses and supporters, we have been slowly replacing all of the furniture, technology, and supplies that were destroyed in the hurricane.
Unfortunately, as far as we have come, we still have a ways to go. There are so many little things that are needed in a classroom that we still haven't been able to replace. One of these is dictionaries and thesauruses.
In Louisiana, all 4th grade students are required to take, and pass, the high stakes LEAP test in order to advance to the 5th grade. A large portion of this test focuses on writing abilities. This is an area where I have found my students need a great deal of instruction. Having a classroom set of dictionaries and thesauruses would greatly enhance writing instruction and student achievement. In addition to writing, my students will be able to use these across the curriculum on a daily basis.
Your help will bring my students one step closer to passing the high stakes LEAP test and becoming fabulous little writers! Thank you for your time and generosity!
