How Do You Spell Electronic Dictionary?

My students need ten electronic dictionaries for classroom use to use on a daily basis.

FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Zeglin's classroom raised $571

My Students

Do you enjoy looking up words in the dictionary? Most students would groan "No!" However, looking up words with an electronic dictionary is fun. Students will fight over having a turn on these little machines. Looking up words will then improve students' vocabulary and reading skills.

My students are a great group of kids from PA.

Like most seventh graders they want to have words spelled for them instead of taking the time to look them up in the dictionary. Over 30% receive free and reduced school lunches. Many parents do not have the resources to buy their child an expensive electronic dictionary for school. However, these kids love technology. When we go to the computer lab, they are always very motivated to participate in the lesson. I really want students to like to read and write. However, using dictionaries can be very frustrating to students who struggle with reading problems and learning disabilities. These students need the extra assistance of an electronic dictionary to help them become successful.

My Project

I really believe that these electronic dictionaries will help students increase their vocabularies and reading skills. I had an electronic dictionary when I was a kid and I loved it. I used to keep a list of words that I didn't know in a notebook. Then, I would use my dictionary to discover the meaning. This was fun! Students will not even realize they are learning. Since I am hoping to get ten dictionaries, this will encourage cooperative learning as students will be able to share. There are many benefits to these devices. Sadly, the only drawback is the high cost. I wish I could afford to buy one for each student but that is impossible. Please help me inspire my students to read and write more!

This donation will help students by not only allowing students to increase their reading skills, but to show them how helpful technology can be.

Not all of my students are savvy with technology but they all seem to love using it. These electronic dictionaries will inspire students to figure out what more words mean and then use those words in their own writing. Please help my students overcome their learning and spelling issues and write all they can write. Thank you!
