Our school is a new small school created within an existing under-performing school located in a very diverse and high-needs urban area.
Our school is very privileged to have over 40 nationalities represented in its student body. This year, we have our first ESL class, made up of learners from Nepal, Sri Lanka, India, China and Mexico. Because this is our first year, we lack the basic necessities of an ESL classroom - no textbooks, no dictionaries, and three times a week, we meet in the principal's office due to lack of space.
I am currently helping the students towards academic success in their other classes. When the students meet me after school with work from their other classes, I most often find myself saying, "Where's your dictionary?" Most students lack even this basic necessity for success. They need a class set of dictionaries they can use to help them complete their assignments for other classes.
Your donation would help ESL students to have a class set of dictionaries that they can freely and independently use to help them. They are brilliant and highly-motivated students, but they need that access key to the English language. Thank you for your help!
