Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am honored to be the Social Emotional Learning Specialist at Tumbleweed Elementary school. One of the most unique things about Tumbleweed is our House System.
The House System on the Tumbleweed campus has been an incredible journey that has changed the culture of not only the students, but the staff, parents and community members who are invested and involved with our school.
As the SELS for the school, my heart is overjoyed seeing the positive outcomes and culture change. The House System fosters a sense of community and belonging. For students who may not have a core group of friends in their class or their grade level, they know and feel that within their particular house, they belong and have a family of 80+ members! This also brings a sense of security and safety. The House System instills a sense of prestige and feelings of accomplishment as they learn more about their house and take pride in the characteristics of their house. Most importantly, the House System provides an opportunity for our students to achieve self-actualization and encouragement to fulfill their full potential. I will use this project to purchase House celebrated items in our house colors. I plan to buy tablecloths in the house colors for the cafeteria, balloons for different house meetings for the students, house animal blowups, stickers, etc.
This will benefit every student on the Tumbleweed campus! As the SELS, these essential life long skills that are inspired through the House System bring pure joy to my heart as I see our students blossom when discussing their house, celebrating their house and wearing their colors.
