I am the tech integration specialist for Kolter Elementary. It has 650 PK-5 students. All students have technology integrated with their instruction. Two after school clubs code and learn multimedia and robotics.
Kolter Elementary is a Houston ISD (HISD) Elementary School and Foreign Language Magnet dedicated to the academic success and personal growth of children in grades PreK-5.
We have a diverse population which includes many non-native English speakers. We strive to help every student succeed while integrating technology at every level.
Children in grades K-5 study a foreign language and culture. In Kindergarten, students are introduced to and explore Chinese, French, and Spanish languages and cultures. In First Grade, students begin to focus on a single language. As they progress through the required core curriculum of Grades 1-5, children also advance in their study of their chosen language. Kolter uses an integrated approach, developing foreign language skills while incorporating art, physical education, and technology instruction. Kolter provides students with diverse cultural opportunities throughout the school year.
My Project
These iPads will be housed in our library and checked out to teachers to use in various ways. We will continue our coding program and have applied though our district to extend coding instruction throughout the curriculum. A second way they will be used is for coding and creating multimedia products in our after school clubs. And finally, students who are in our GT program will be able to check out an iPad to do individual research projects using the IIM model.
This will make a huge difference as more students will have access to technology.
We have a significant population that has no access to technology at home and we have very few tablets here at school.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
