My Project
I teach a spirited and curious group of 2nd–5th graders at an alternative public charter school that serves students with behavioral challenges. My students are imaginative, opinionated, and deeply curious about the world—but many have had limited exposure to age-appropriate, high-quality informational texts.
Most come from low-income households and are part of an equity-focused school community, meaning they often face barriers to educational resources that other students take for granted.
Despite these challenges, they have a hunger for real-world connections and stories that make learning feel alive. TIME for Kids has been a successful source for my students in years past. Make literacy fun and popular with the requested magazines.
