This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Enrollment of English language learners is at an all time high in many New York City schools and others around the country. In my school, most of the ELL students come from Arabic or Urdu speaking countries. Other students speak Uzbeki, Mandarin, Bengali, Spanish or Russian. Although their native languages are different, all of my ELL student want to learn! In the current anti-immigration society we live in, showing these children that they matter is very important to me. I myself was an English Language Learner in the NYC public school system. I see myself in each of the children I teach. They deserve every opportunity to learn and succeed.
My Project
Hot Dots is an interactive learning system that my ELL students would be excited to use. In order to learn a second language adults and children need various forms of stimuli. Learners need to be able to see, hear and interact with the English language. This Hot Dots system would model saying the words for them. Students would be able to learn proper pronunciation. The activities in this program are visual and auditory. Students would use the flashcards and hear the words which makes for a stronger connection. This program would be great for my students to work with independently while I work with other learning groups.
