Teaching is not only about the children learning, but what the children teach me. I teach special education for grades K-3.
Our school is an inclusive model, so in order to keep children with their same age peers for 80% or more a school day, I do much small group instruction throughout the day in my classroom. I am currently making do with the tables my school has provided, but they are not conducive to small group instruction. We are cramped together like sardines, I am constantly tripping over chairs and occasionally students to try and get to those who need my assistance.
The horse shoe shaped table will allow for up to 8 children to sit at the table at one time with space available for them to actually perform tasks and complete their work. We work with many manipulatives and the students need work space. The location of teacher at the horse shoe table is right in the center,so I can get to any of my 8 students quickly without leaving my seat or tripping over them or their chairs. This take care of the space issues we are currently facing and allow for me to get to students quickly and safely.
You will make it possible for my students to have the power to perform tasks, explore concepts and grow as learners in a manner where they have personal space, work space and safe access to their teacher.
