Celebrate Black Teachers and Students
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are an amazing group of 7th graders who mostly live in East New York and Canarsie. Our school services high performing students, trying to provide challenging work to prepare them for New York City's strongest and most competitive schools.
My Project
I am incredibly excited to have students back in our classrooms! As we move back back to normalcy though, I want to ensure students get back to excellent reading habits.
In October, our students will be starting a horror unit, and these books will allow them to take part in rigorous independent study! By helping create this extensive horror library of 40 titles, students will be able to read their own novel and apply the deeper ideas of our unit to the own text.
This library covers a wide range of titles to support students at a wide range of levels. Everything from Stephen King to Mary Shelly to more contemporary works can be found here with several graphic novels
By including multiple copies of texts, I hope students will even be able to form their own book clubs!
