At Howard Hall Elementary we created a calm room to help our dysregulated scholars. We only had a limited budget. We tried to use a limited budget to fund the bigger ticketed items like special lighting, crash pads, and some sensory tools. We need your help to stock the calm down room or as we call it the Hornet Haven. We need noise-canceling headphones in various sizes (we are a K-5 school), fidgets, social-emotional games, and storage/ organization.
This Calm Down space will serve all students who need it this year and for years to come.
A focus on mental health is part of our school culture as we aim to be a safe inclusive space that strives to meet our scholars' needs where they are. Our school is a title I school that serves over 600 scholars in grades kindergarten through 5th grade. A high percentage of our students are military-connected.
