My Project

Horizon students challenge themselves. Embracing challenge “Learn Believe, Dream, Dare” is the cornerstone/ guiding principles of Horizon Honors

The ipad and video cameras will enable students to film performance in individualized pursuits like Weightlifting, or team sports like basketball, volleyball and soccer, providing opportunities for the self-assessment/ peer-assessment of technique and form during a lift, shot, block or pass.

In addition students will be able to assess tactical and positional acument in team invasion sports. Daily use of the cameras will facilitate a point of view for students to better understand where they should be and why. The selected cameras and Ipad facilitate documentation of performance both inside and outside while being student friendly. Ultimately we endeavor to improve performance, and tactical awareness. The selected devices will allow me to do so. Having multiple cameras will facilitate assessment in two classes being held at the same time, in one class, providing multiple angles/ perspectives if a student is performing lift or skill. The ipads will have multi-faceted purposes including the photographic evidence of form, documentation of statistical information, video review capabilities and project creation.

The project goals are firstly to increase student ownership of their physical development. The ability to see both good and bad techniques will facilitate a greater understanding of how their body moves. Secondly students will have video evidence to assist them in goal setting. Thirdly students will be able to see examples of good performance and technique in their peers and thereby understand how to hone their own technique. Students will mentor peers in real time providing timely feedback. The physical education department can begin to establish video catalogs of proper form and techniques accessible to all school members. Horizon Honors endeavors to produce life long learners who continually strive to improve.
