My Students
Our school is located in the inner city with underprivileged families striving for a better life. Single parents, grandparents, and older siblings continue to do their very best to instill a better way of living for their families. They face many challenges, but that doesn't impede them from wanting to learn or stop them from dreaming big.
We are 95% African American, 2% Haitian American, 2% Hispanic, and 1% Caucasian, with 97% of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch.
Teachers create a safe, fun, and empowering classroom for our students to help them thrive in all areas of their lives. I love our students and spend most of my out-of-the-classroom time developing projects to enhance their learning and well-being.
My Project
At our school, we have a district-supported after-school program designed to level the playing field between our low economic students and their wealthier peers at other schools. This program includes all sports, dance, gardening, art, homework help, individual online learning programs, and chess. The program is designed to promote attendance and students’ interest in their education. The students selected to participate are those most at risk of failing. And of course, the student's favorite portion of the program is the sports segment.
We have high school students living in the community volunteering and completing community service hours working the T.A.L.E.N.T.S program after school.
They will team up with our middle school students as a role model to build students' morale and confidence.
Supporting this project will give these vulnerable students another incentive to survive to be successful at school.
Who said exercise has to be boring? Using hopper balls will certainly be a decent workout. Hopper balls strengthen a range of muscles, including major leg, arm, and abdominal muscles. These hopper balls raise the heart rate, making them a great form of cardiovascular exercise. They're also often used by occupational therapists and other healthcare professionals to improve balance and vestibular orientation in kids. These glorious bouncing toys that MAKE EXERCISE FUN.
Beach balls will add to additional movement while making kids active. This will control weight gain and are just fun to play with. The third through fifth-grade students have requested Tug-of-war rope. This is a good sport to teach communication and respect for each other.
In addition, we need a cart to transport/store all the equipment and masks since our school is out of them. These masks are needed to protect our students so they can stay healthy and COVID-19 free.
