Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are a group of very sensitive 4-5 year olds and this pandemic is throwing them for a loop. For some of my children, being in our building or seeing each other online, is the only time they get to see other children and socialize. Most of my students are coming into the building 5 days a week, with a few still learning remotely from home. These children, whether running into school or joining on the computer each morning are so excited to see each other and are so excited to learn new things.
Being the first pre-k class of this new normal, there are so many unknowns, we never know if we will have to pivot back to remote learning at any time.
We are always hoping things will get better before the year is up. Even though we have been together since September, everyday is a new start, rules and regulations have been constantly changing.
My Project
We have all heard of the summer slide, where children lose a lot of what they have learned through the year during the summer months. My children have worked so hard this year and it would be dreadful if it were all lost because they didn't have the right tools to keep them engaged in learning over the summer.
The tools included in these kits: foam letters, crayons, manipulatives and more, will be just the tools my children will need to keep them interested in learning and help them transition back to school in the fall.
Nobody knows what the fall will look like but with your help we will know one thing, we will have helped prevent the summer slide. With your help, my children will receive a backpack filled with engaging supplies after a year that was filled with many ups and downs that they so graciously accepted as their new normal. Due to your generosity, each child will receive a gift of love" as they leave pre-k and venture off to kindergarten.
