My students need a new, quality document camera to project onto a big screen to discuss and share with classmates.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Bongers's classroom raised $508

My Students
My students are in middle school. They are vibrant and social, and yes, they like to talk about Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus, but they also like to talk with their peers about their thoughtful ideas, the stories they've written, and the powerful passages they've found in books they've read.
Zoom in.
Zoom out. Zoom in. Zoom out. Imagine students trying to learn from projected images that are constantly going through this 'focusing' process. It's enough to make tweenagers go nutty! A new document camera has the potential to make teaching and learning crystal clear.
My Project
The benefits to projecting a small image onto a bigger screen so an entire class can see it are endless. Currently we have an old document camera that serves this function but it constantly goes in and out of focus. It makes my students' eyes go buggy, but it's better than seeing no image at all... or is it? We use the camera all the time for me to explicitly model how to mark up a text or for students to share their stories and get feedback from peers. It especially helps to keep the attention of some of my daydreamers because watching a friend revise his story or getting to see a peer's draft of a persuasive essay as she reads it is like watching a live (yet academic!) TV show on the big screen. Teachable moments happen that much faster when you can instantly show the class the document being referred to. The kicker is...it helps if the images are in focus.
"Miss B.?
It's blurry again."
"Um, can you make the picture clearer? I can hardly see it..."
I hear comments like this daily from my frustrated students. I share their same frustration. I am a teacher who loves to maximize the use of technology in the classroom to enhance student learning but in order to do so, it needs to be reliable and function well consistently. The older, cheaper document camera we currently use smothers so many amazing learning opportunities.
