My Students
Our classroom is a busy place from beginning to end. Throughout the day you will find students painting on the easel, learning to read, doing math, and learning about the world. We are blessed to have i-pads for the students to work on, but they can be distracting to other students' learning time.
Our school is a wonderful place to be for students as well as teachers.
There is a culture of respect for each other and for the learning that is taking place. We are made up of diverse cultures and we love to learn from one another. The focus of our school is to provide developmentally appropriate opportunities for our students to learn. In my classroom, learning is valued, as well as playing and socialization. Students are often encouraged to work and play with different partners throughout the day.
My Project
Headphones and headphone hooks for our i-pads will make our classroom run more smoothly. During our center time, I am teaching groups of students reading skills while the other students are participating in different learning activities with a partner. The activities, or "centers", range from writing to retelling stories with flannel board pieces, to practicing reading, sight words, and more. Students love working on the i-pads during center time. They can listen to stories being read aloud or they can play educational games. The only problem is the noise that it creates. It can be distracting to the students who are trying to read. This distraction cuts into their time of instruction. With headphones, the distraction would be gone! Students could concentrate at my table and focus on their reading! At the same time, students on the i-pads will be better able to listen to the stories.
Studies have shown that listening to stories read aloud improves reading comprehension and fluency.
Getting headphones will allow more students in my classroom to listen to reading, since it will no longer be creating a noisy distraction for the other learners. Our classroom will continue to function in a focused and meaningful way, which will allow for lots of learning and fun!
