This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We have a kiln, glaze, pottery wheels, sprig molds and no white clay! Thanks to the generous donors in 2014, we were able to provide our students with an opportunity to create 3D works that they will cherish forever!
We are a Title I, inner city school in Connecticut.
Many of our students are English language learners and 100% of the student body receives free breakfast and lunch. Our school has a positive and supportive attitude towards the arts and our administration does their best to get us the essential materials for our classroom. Sadly, clay is one of those items that that goes on my wish list, because of the price of shipping it eats up most of the budget.
My Project
I want my students to be able to throw clay on a potter's wheel and experiment with new hand building techniques. This is my students' favorite medium and they love to take home their works of art. They love sharing their creations with their families and seeing their works on display in our yearly art show.
This clay will give my students exposure to a medium that is not always available to them.
I want my students to have all of the opportunities that students in wealthier districts have. My students go on to high school all over Connecticut and I want them to be prepared academically and have the same experiences as their peers from other towns.
